Grand Socco:
Grand Socco, which locals call "Place du 9 Avril 1947" is the image that comes to mind when you think of Tangier. You can see it easily, it is at the entrance to the medina. Grand Socco is the heart of the city, always full of people from over the place: there are merchants, travelers who are curious and people who have lived in Tangier forever.
The crowds changed, but the energy hasn't. Markets and street vendors have given way to endless streams of taxis, crowded cafés, and those Tangier conversations that spill out into the street. The place just never sits still.
You don't stand outside Grand Socco watching Tangier wake up. You get swept into it, part of the city's wild, restless rhythm.
